For years, Lille was France's best-kept secret till the TGV and Eurostar came to the region.

Birthplace of the great Charles de Gaulle, it is home to quaint, historic neighbourhoods and architecture, amazing boutiques, markets and restaurants, complimented by the charm of stunning modern buildings. Narrow cobbled stones, broad Flemish squares, belfries and surprising local decorations make it a unique city to discover by foot.

Food and drinking traditions are another asset of the town : regional beers, cheeses and dishes have now reached national recognition.

Lille Europe and EuraLille : learn about the stunning modern monuments designed by famous architects such as Koolhaas, Jean Nouvel, Portzamparc. Continue the discovery with the old Lille district and Grand Place, Opera, Notre Dame de la Treille, Palais Rihour... Lille was most famously the old capital of Flanders but the town's heritage has been variously and successively Flemish, Burgurdian, Spanish, Dutch, and French.

After your tour, maybe it is time to try the famous «moules-frites », so popular in the region, or a local specialty.
